Honoring Szenczy Sándor: A Legacy of Faith and Compassion

Szenczy Sándor stands as one of Hungary’s most respected humanitarian figures. As the founder of Hungarian Baptist Aid, his life and work continue to inspire students and educators across the nation. At Veritas Collegiate Academy in Budapest, we honored his memory and mission with a heartfelt day of commemoration rooted in Christian values and community spirit.

A Day of Reflection and Celebration – This year’s Szenczy Sándor Day at Veritas brought students, faculty, and guests together in remembrance and thanksgiving. The event focused on the enduring values that Szenczy championed—love, empathy, and faithful service to others.

Special Guest from Hungarian Baptist Aid – We were honored to welcome Szilvia Révész from Hungarian Baptist Aid, who offered meaningful insights into Szenczy’s life, leadership, and international influence. The presentation highlighted his unwavering belief in the power of Christian education and the faithful’s responsibility to care for the vulnerable.

A Moment of Leadership and Inspiration – Our principal, Dr. Grébecz-Dula Borbála, led the session and guided the discussion with the visiting speaker from Baptist Aid, drawing powerful connections between Szenczy’s work and our school’s calling. Dr. Grébecz-Dula shared moving reflections on how Szenczy’s words continue to inspire her personally. She reminded us that no mission is impossible when we walk in faith and work with purpose. Her message was clear: our shared mission to transform young minds and hearts is not just possible—it is essential. With spirit, dedication, and love, we can continue shaping a generation rooted in Christ.

Documentary Screening and Shared Inspiration – Following the discussion, our school community watched a powerful documentary dedicated to Szenczy Sándor’s life. The film explored his tireless work in crisis zones, his leadership during national emergencies, and his dedication to building a culture of service rooted in the Gospel. For many students, the documentary was a defining moment—a reminder of how one life, rooted in faith, can transform many others. It challenged us to live with purpose, serve with humility, and lead with love.

Floating Tributes: Messages of Gratitude and Hope – To close the day, students prepared wooden rafts, each inscribed with personal messages and quotes inspired by Szenczy’s humanitarian spirit. These boats were floated in a symbolic act of remembrance and mission, reflecting his deep belief in sending love into the world. This simple but powerful gesture reminded us all that we are part of something greater—a legacy of service, compassion, and enduring faith.

Continuing Szenczy Sándor’s Legacy Through Christian Education – At Veritas, we remain committed to carrying forward Szenczy Sándor’s vision. We strive to deliver the highest-quality Christian education with a humanitarian mindset. Our mission is not only to educate minds but also to shape hearts—hearts that reflect Christ’s love for the world. In today’s globalized world, where life changes rapidly and threats, uncertainties, and the search for meaning weigh heavily on young hearts, life often feels like a powerful, fast-moving river. At Veritas, we passionately believe that Christian education offers a sturdy raft—one that helps our students navigate turbulent waters and always find a safe shore.

Soli Deo Gloria.
