One of the first things people want to know is often where a person is from. I am from the United States. Being American has absolutely shaped who I am, but I don’t think that alone defines me. God defines me and has created me uniquely. Curiosity. Dignity. Awe. God has used these three words to make me who I am. I am driven by curiosity. Whether it is learning something new, digging deeper into a topic, trying new foods, getting to know someone, or exploring a new place, I love the adventure of discovery. I also find curiosity and the thrill of discovery to be contagious. When someone is exploring something interesting, he or she can’t help but share it with others. It’s as if the learning can’t be contained. A thirst for learning and a desire to pass it on makes teaching the perfect job for me.

Besides a curious mind, I also have a heart that longs for people to be seen and known. Men and women are created in the image of God and are, therefore, born with dignity and deserving of respect. In the way that I listen, ask questions, spend time with others, and pray for people I want to honor them.

Finally, God leaves me in awe. He causes me to delight in small things like the quiet of the forest on a hike, the color of tulips, and the sound laughter. He also astounds me by His faithfulness and generosity. To be called His child in an honor and to know Him is an unmatched privilege. I am at my best when I am living in awe of God.
